We serve all Latino gay, bisexual or otherwise identified Men Who Have Sex with Men (MSM), other MSM of color, persons living with HIV, transgender persons, and their partners. While grants cover the bulk of BMS’s costs, each year we depend upon donors to help us close the gap when our services exceed the reach or scope of our grants.

Short for “pre-exposure prophylaxis,” PrEP is an HIV prevention medication for people who are HIV-negative and want to reduce their risk of acquiring HIV. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective at preventing HIV infection.
Daily oral PrEP reaches maximum protection for receptive anal sex after about 7 days of daily use. For receptive vaginal sex and injection drug use, PrEP may take up to 21 days of daily use to reach maximum protection levels.
It is important to take PrEP consistently as prescribed and continue regular HIV and STI testing while on PrEP.
Short for “post-exposure prophylaxis,” PEP is an emergency medication that may help prevent HIV infection after a possible exposure to HIV.
PEP must be started within 72 hours after a potential HIV exposure to be effective. However, treatment should be started as soon as possible. The earlier PEP is started, the more effective it may be.
PEP is taken for 28 days and requires follow-up HIV testing and medical care.
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, contact our staff immediately.
Short for “pre-exposure prophylaxis,” PrEP is an HIV prevention strategy in which HIV-negative people take an oral pill once a day before coming into contact with HIV to reduce risk of HIV infection. PrEP must be taking for at least 7 days to reach optimal levels of protection against HIV.
Short for”post-exposure prophylaxis”. Officially, PEP can help if started within 72 hours after HIV exposure. But the newest research shows almost all of the protection disappears after 48 hours, so if you think you’ve had an exposure, reach out to our staff right away!
